Just after Christmas Gabe and I went to see a most unusual and creative exhibition: LuminoCity, a massive light installation set up at NYC’s Randall’s Island. As you can see as you scroll through the photos, there were sections devoted to the Ice Age, a tropical rain forest, and the dinosaurs. We also wandered through Candyland and Magic Mushroom Forest! I’ve never seen anything like this light display! If it comes to your town, do try to see it. Great for kids and adults, the whole thing takes about an hour to meander through. Rainy in Miami today; snow expected later in NYC; blizzard conditions out west. Seems the weather wants us to hunker down indoors and get comfy-cozy. I can’t think of anything better than baking something tasty, perhaps a treat that fills the house with sweet and spicy aromas hinting at the deliciousness to come. To inspire us, here’s a few pics of a Tarte Tatin I made last month. If you have 6-8 apples and a ready-made pie crust at hand, the rest is easy! Absolutely delighted to learn that I have passed the Fortified and Sparkling Wine units of the #WSETdiploma! That means I’ve got one more class left - D3 Light Wines of the World aka The Beast, which I will undertake in September. Until then, I’ll try to get a head start with some independent studies. Looking for a fun way to up your healthy eating game? Try adding colorful items like sliced avocado (I know, not so original) and Peruvian purple potatoes (maybe a little more original.) The potatoes in this salad were steamed for dinner the night before; a few leftovers went into the fridge. The next day I peeled and sliced them and threw them on the salad. Over night their color deepened to a beautiful dark blue that looks great next to the pale green avocado. Had a great dinner with friends the other night at a new-to-me place in Miami @soyaepomodoro an old-school Italian restaurant downtown. Live music, homemade pasta, and a great bottle of Falanghina made for a fun night! The decor was eclectic, including photos of 70s rock stars and funky paintings. My favorite though, was this string of things hanging above the dining room. Made me think of laundry air drying on a line, suspended between buildings. One of my first wines of the new year was this delightful rosé of organically farmed Mendocino Zinfandel and Carignane made by @meekerwine. Called Warp and Weft after the horizontal and vertical threads woven together to make cloth, this wine is a seamless creation highlighting both grapes. There is beautiful red fruit from the Zin, some tannin and black fruit from the Carignane. The result is a tangy, tart-sour pink refresher. Perfect for a warm evening in Miami! I had the good fortune to learn about and taste Meeker Wines during one of the online educational seminars hosted by @winestudiotina. Since then I’ve been a big fan. This was my first time trying the Warp and Weft but I plan to drink a lot more of it!
